Junior squash graded competition results
The latest Skanco junior squash graded competition was held recently at the NSC Squash Centre with an entry of 44 players of various ages and ability.
Seven players aged from 11 to 17 contested Group 1 and there were notable successes for the younger players. Mason McLarney had an excellent win over Christopher Cave 13/5 and Kuba Szymanski pipped Zaeem Jafri 13/12. Jason Crease recorded 4 wins out of 6 to finish in third place on 67 points but it was the final match of the Group between Zaeem and Chris Doherty that determined the trophies. In a close match Zaeem eventually won through 13/11 to score maximum points.
Chris Corrigan continued his good run in these competitions, sweeping the board in Group 2. In the battle for second place, Alex Cave and Tom Whiteway had 4 wins out of 6 but it was the result in their match – 13/4 to Tom that secured the runner up spot for Tom. Ben Atkinson had 3 wins to finish third and there were 2 wins apiece for Michelle Smith and Alex Maitland.

In Group 3 Sammy Holt and Alastair Trace had 4 wins each but a 10 point margin in Sammy’s favour in their match meant that Sammy finished in third place in the Group, level on points with the eventual runner up James McCusker. Laura Green and James finished with 5 wins each but whilst James beat Laura 13/10, his defeat to Alastair 13/8 saw Laura win the Group by 2 points.
Another player to record a clean sweep was Liam Dixon in Group 4 who gave little away to his opponents conceding only 27 points in the 6 matches. Charlie McMaw won 3 matches finishing in fourth place one point behind Andrew Stutt who beat him 13/12. With 5 wins and a total of 73 points Juan Corrin finished runner-up scoring the most points of Liam 9/13 in the process.
Hadyn McLarney also scored maximum points, winning all his matches in Group 5. Three players were in contention for the runner up trophy. Christopher Holmes won 3 matches and narrowly lost another two by a solitary point to finish up with 64 points. Fraser Dorling had four wins to finish with the same number of points as Christopher. In the end it was Liam Quinn who came second in the Group with 6 wins out of seven and a total of 69 points. Alex Redfearn came fifth with 62 points and Scott Donald scored 61 points to finish in sixth place.
In Group 6 the trophies were decided in the last match of the competition. With Jack Freeman already finished with 70 points, the match between Ryan Freeman on 62 points after 6 games and Joseph Dudley (64 after 6) had to be close to deny Jack the runner up spot. The result of that match – 11/6 – in favour of Joe meant that Joe won the Group with 6 victories and 75 points, with Ryan ending up with 68 points in fourth place. James Green was third, level on points with Jack. Sam Wilson scored 57 points to finish in fifth place.
Trophies and prizes were presented by Barry Kennedy on behalf of the sponsors, Skanco Business Systems, whose continued support of junior squash is greatly appreciated.
