As times change and trends shift, IT, as any other industry must be agile enough and willing to change to meet the demands of its consumers be it the platforms utilised by a user base or the services offered by providers such as Skanco.
Currently the industry is seeing a move towards the consumption of these platforms and services through an Operational Expenditure (Opex) model and away from a more traditional Capital Expenditure (Capex) model. There are several factors driving this, the most prominent being a desire from the consumer to have a clear understanding of per month, quarter or annual outgoings aiding their forecasts for the performance of the business and avoiding unforeseen spikes in expenditure.
As technology matures and platforms become more resilient it is now possible for an organisation to run some or all of its systems and applications via the cloud, in most instances utilisation of these cloud services can accessed through subscriptions, buying in to this Opex model.
For those organisations wishing to, or having to for regulatory or other reasons, retain autonomy of their own systems and continue to operate from on-premise infrastructure, there are now options available to procure the latest hardware and software through various types of financing, much in the same way as millions of people do with their cars for example.
Service providers too need to recognise the shift in this regard which is why you may have started to see many traditional offerings from IT service providers suffixed aaS – as a Service. From ongoing technical support, installation and management of the latest security and monitoring products, hardware maintenance and backups to name but a few progressive service providers should now allow the consumer to package as many of their services as required into this as-a-Service model if they are to meet the demands on their current and future customer base.
If this has given you food for thought please speak to your Skanco Account Manager to discuss options around subscription services and financed packages.
