Another busy month for Skanco sponsored athlete, Rachael Franklin, below she provides us with an update on her training regime and preparation for the Easter Festival:-
April started with a week of warm weather training in Portugal, I was lucky to have my coach, training partners and good friends with me for the trip which always helps in the hard sessions and many runs.
In my favourite session I did 16 x 400m with 45 second recovery between repetitions at 5k pace, to make it harder the 8th and 15th repetitions were 5 seconds faster and the last rep full out which I managed to do in 61 seconds. I do this type of session every year, so it was great to see how much I had improved. We would train twice a day, making sure to recover as much as possible between each day, I ended the week doing my best mileage with a total of 86.5 miles. I learnt a lot while I was out there, and I hope to take this forward with me in to the track season.
With the cross-country season at an end and a great week of warm weather training under my belt I am feeling very confident going in to this year’s Easter Festival. I am taking part in all three races this year and hoping to win the overall festival, I know this will be hard as we have many top UK runners taking part too.
Skanco sponsorship and support helps me to ensure my body holds out over the hard miles of the winter with regular sport massages and physiotherapy.
Since I returned I have been planning my busy race schedule on the track in build up to the Gibraltar Island Games in July, I am pleased to have been selected to do the 800m, 1500m, 4 x 400m relay.
